ENGLISH & SONS

Sawmill Products

We specialize in Southern Longleaf pine, but we also cut oak, juniper, and cedar and poplar. What makes English & Sons so unique is our circular saw. A circular saw creates a beautiful and distinct pattern. As the boards are cut the circle saw blade leaves marks on the boards, known as “kerf marks”. This gives the board an amazing rustic look, as if it were sawn 100 years ago. It creates character and beauty that will last for generations and will always be sought after for its unique appearance.

Southern Red Cedar

Often referred to as “aromatic cedar” because of its pleasant scent. Cedar is a natural insecticide and is highly rot-resistant. It has the performance of pressure-treated wood without chemicals. Its heartwood has pinkish-red tones, almost purplish when cut. Cedar is perfect for outdoor or indoor projects.

Juniper or “Atlantic White Cedar”

Our Juniper is much like red cedar in the fact that it is aromatic as well as water and pest resistant.

Longleaf Southern Pine

Often referred to as “aromatic cedar” because of its pleasant scent. Cedar is a natural insecticide and is highly rot-resistant. It has the performance of pressure-treated wood without chemicals. Its heartwood has pinkish-red tones, almost purplish when cut. Cedar is perfect for outdoor or indoor projects.

 Southern Red and Live Oak

Oak is exceptionally durable, extraordinarily strong, and looks great stained or with a natural finish. Unlike pine, cedar, and other coniferous trees, oak is a hardwood and it lives up to the name. Northwest Florida supplied the Navy with Live Oak for their ships because there were so well  known for their durability. In fact live oak was used for the building of the famous “Old Ironsides”. Oak is strong enough to make ships but still so versatile that it can be used for many indoor and outdoor projects. When working with Oak you feel a sense of working with a piece of history as many of the trees we salvage and mill have been alive for over 150 years. We specialize in Southern Red Oak as well as Live Oak

“Lightered” Heart Pine

Our specialty wood we call Lighter heart Pine is source from trees that have been down long enough to allow the resin to condense and solidify forming lightered wood. As the softer sap wood rots away the Lightered heart is left and is resistant to pest and rot and can persist for decades and in some cases centuries even when exposed to the element. This is all made possible by the condenses resins that are a natural preservative and have a wonderfully unique smell.

Blue Pine

“Blue” pine is a term used to describe pine that has been damaged by beetles. The beetles introduce a fungus that causes a blue stain throughout the tree. Ultimately, this will result in the tree’s death. A pine can stand dead in the forest for years. The longer it stands, the richer the color will be and the more dramatic its character will become. Studies have shown few differences in strength between a “blue” pine and a regular yellow pine. The lumber will have distinguished areas of blue gray to light gray coloring.  These trees were once considered undesirable and left in the forest to rot. At English & Sons we believe the lumber has a natural beauty all its own.

 Poplar Wood

Poplar wood has a light color sapwood but the heart is full of rich and deep colors of green, yellow, purple, and brown running through it. Its considered a hard wood but it easy to work with and a favorite of carpenters. It has fine straight and uniform grain and stains wonderfully allowing for a wide variety of visually possibilities

Live Edge Slabs

A live edge slab has the unfinished edge of the wood. Meaning it keeps the original characteristics of the tree, including its shape and bark. We cut from select logs and make extra effort to find anything interesting or appealing to make a one-of-a-kind slab for your project. Live edge mantel pieces are available on request.

Sawdust

We offer high-quality, fresh-cut, sawdust for a variety of uses. Great for animal stall bedding, the softest and most absorbent for your horses. As farm owners, we use our sawdust in our stalls daily. Also, good for composting and decomposing, used by hunting clubs for skinning sheds.
